Why do I get more than one (1) bill for my emergency department visit ?

You (or your insurance company) will receive at least two (2) bills after your emergency room visit. Your bill from Sussex Emergency Associates covers only the Emergency Physician/Mid Level Provider services. You will also receive an additional separate bill from Beebe Medical Center which is for use of the facility, medications, nursing care, etc. There may be other bills as well for xrays or radiologic procedures, depending on what you required for evaluation and treatment for your particular medical problem.

Who will I be seen by in the ED, an emergency physician or mid–level provider (physician’s assistant or nurse practitioner) ?

In the Emergency Department, you may be seen by a physician, or by one of our mid level providers, either a physician's assistant or nurse practitioner. Whom will see you is in part determined by the complexity or seriousness of your problem, how busy the department is at the time of your visit, or by other needs of the department. If you are seen by a mid level provider, it is our policy that the provider will be in continuous contact with the emergency physician about your case. If you are not satisfied with your provider, you may request to see a physician or another provider, depending on availability and the needs of the department.

Can I request to be seen by an emergency physician? By my own personal physician?

You will be seen by either an emergency physician or a mid-level provider (physician's assistant or nurse practitioner); if you are not satisfied with your care, you may request to be seen by another practitioner, depending on availability and the conditions within the emergency department.

You may request that we contact your personal physician and we will attempt to do so, if possible. Only emergency physicians employed by SEA have privileges to practice emergency medicine at Beebe Medical Center.
